YouTuber Niko Omilana, leader of the NDL, will be running for mayor of the 2000-year-old city that is London, England.

Each generation has some celebrities who then join the political arena. Recently it has been a growing trend due to Donald Trump’s success. In 2020, Americans saw rap mogul Kayne West run for president. Although unsuccessful and costing Kayne his relationship, Mr. West contributed to the fading lines between politics and Hollywood.

In 2021, there has been an enormous amount of celebrities becoming candidates for public office. Catlin Jenner and Mary Carey are both running for governor of California.

One can argue that Niko Omilana has done it all: Sneaking into the ring where Logan Paul faced off against KSI, pranking the internet numerous times, and becoming the leader of 3 million people through his NDL (Niko Defense League) platform.

So what are the chances for him becoming mayor? Those chances are very slim, as he is currently polling at 5%. Niko Omilana does not expect to win next week, according to his manager. He considers running for mayor as more of an investment than anything else. However, some of Niko Omilana’s policies are very popular amongst the younger demographic, giving him astonishing 5% polling figures.

According to polling data, Sadiq Khan is most likely to win Mayor of London, beating his primary opponent, Shaun Bailey, by 13%. However, the supporters of the NDL will deny Sadiq Khan a majority of the vote if the current polling data is an accurate representation of what will go down on May 6th.

What are Niko Omilana’s policies? Here are a few of them:

  • Boris Johnson (Prime Minister of Great Britain) will be forced to shush
  • Introduce Stop and Serve, which will include free school meals
  • Employ more police officers and put them straight into houses of parliament as that’s where all the real criminals are
  • Raise the minimum wage by 6.9%
  • Eid, Christmas, Diwali, Yom Kippur, and Vaisakhi to become Bank Holidays to celebrate the culture of our great city.
  • A second eye will be added to the London Eye, so it becomes the London Eyes.

Many of these policies are indeed jokes, but policies such as raising the minimum wage and making religious holidays bank holidays are ones that some voters support. At the same time, voters in recent times seem to want to go for the outsider. Many people share Niko Omilana’s anger with members of parliament in Great Britain.

Niko Omilana may not be able to add another eye to the London eye, but he sure may spark a new trend of YouTubers and other celebrities running for public office. Niko Omilana is the ultimate underdog.
