Over the years, engineering innovations have led to many technological advancements that have made our lives easier. When Ford revolutionized transport to when Steve Jobs and Bill Gates made considerable advancements in the computing industry, engineering innovations have always reimagined many things that we use.

As the world has been evolving, several new disciplines of engineering have been coming up. In these disciplines, engineers have helped solve some of the most complicated problems in various industries. Today, I will share the importance of engineering in the modern-day.

Fighting climate change.

One of the biggest threats to human life right now is climate change. With the increasing levels of environmental degradation due to manufacturing and other economic activities, there is a fear that our climate will become more hostile as the years go by. At some point, the world may not be habitable. There are lots of engineering innovations that are helping in fighting the problem of climate change.

Some of the innovations include using renewable energy to reduce the power generated due to degrading nature. Today, we have cars, watercraft, and manufacturing plants that use 100% renewable energy, which has drastically reduced the environment’s contamination.

Solving complex medical problems.

Carrying out complex surgeries in hospitals is now possible because of technological innovations in the medical field. For instance, with high-tech CT scans, it is possible to detect problems in people’s internal organs that weren’t detectable in the previous years. Today, it is also possible for doctors to do remote surgeries on patients thanks to the vast engineering advancements in networking.

Changing the way we learn.

The way people accessed information three decades ago is not the same as what we do today. Getting any information needed is just a click away, thanks to engineering advancements in search engines and artificial intelligence. Now that we can easily access information, one doesn’t have to go to a physical classroom to access education as it is possible to study a full course on the internet.

Increasing efficiency in manufacturing.

Technological advancements in robotics and AI have made it possible for machines to take on most repetitive tasks in manufacturing plants. With robots, work is done with much more precision and speed than when humans do it. For this reason, companies like Apple are now able to produce over 200 million phones in a single year.

Construction of complex structures.

Civil, structural, and mechanical engineers have, over the years, helped us in the construction of structures that have made our lives easier. Because of engineering advancements, we have bridges like the Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge in China that is over 102 miles long. With more engineering advancements in technologies like 3D printing, complex structures’ construction is getting much more accessible.
