The NBA2K franchise has built a kingdom through their 20+ years on the market. The classic basketball video game has found itself in the households of millions worldwide and continues to be a fun outlet for sports lovers with a video game system. Like any other large corporation, NBA2K has a sizable marketing team. At the head of it? The infamous Ronnie Singh. More popularly known as Ronnie 2k, he stands as the face of this franchise, for better or for worse.

Since a young age, he has been passionate about sports. Knowing that he wanted to work in the sports media industry, he bounced around majors to find a perfect fit. Eventually, he landed at NBA2K, where he now works as the digital marketing director for the billion-dollar company.

For Ronnie 2K, the effects of this title are very apparent. As the public figure that represents 2K, he boasts an impressive online presence. With over 1,000,000 Instagram followers, the community looks to Ronnie 2K for information and updates. He frequently attends high-level public events (such as all-star weekend) and has participated in the NBA celebrity game. He streams the game on Twitch, YouTube, and Caffeine, where he plays with and against the game users. His impact is exceptionally versatile, and he has done an outstanding job expanding 2K’s online foothold.

However, his position may seem misleading to some. While Ronnie 2K manages the marketing and p.r of NBA2K, he doesn’t have direct access to the game development. Whenever something goes wrong, the heat falls on him. For example, players have popularized the action of “blaming Ronnie” when something in the game doesn’t go their way, such as missing an easy shot. Multiple content creators have adopted this idea, and it’s frequently used in their videos.

The issue stems from the fact that Ronnie 2K doesn’t develop the game, nor does he have the final say regarding the product. This only speaks to how well he does his job. Ronnie 2K gives off an aura of influence, so people generally assume that he controls the game itself.

Whatever the case may be, Ronnie 2K has become a precious asset in the gaming industry. Not only that, but he’s built up a substantial personal brand as well. As previously stated, millions of people follow him on social media, and he has a multifaceted influence that stretches far beyond his job title.

Ronnie 2k represents what any aspiring community manager should look for, a mutually beneficial relationship with his employer. Not in the sense that he’s likely making 6-7 figures, but based on the fact that working with them has grown his personal brand, which has gotten him opportunities that further grow 2K as well. Starting as a young kid with a love for sports, Ronnie Singh has cornered the digital marketing industry.
