Last night, pound-for-pound superstar Floyd Mayweather and internet sensation Logan Paul took to the ring in an exhibition bout that’s been in the works for months on end. Here are some of our takeaways:

Floyd Mayweather wasn’t trying.

This isn’t really disputable. The 44-year-old obviously wasn’t focused on doing anything offensively, especially represented in the low number of punches thrown on his end. He fought defensively, danced around the ring, and coasted through the eight rounds while racking up millions of dollars every 3 minutes.

Logan Paul didn’t win more than two rounds, and he didn’t really win those either.

Logan Paul is not a bad fighter by any means. He clearly took his camp and pre-fight training seriously. But against a legend like Floyd Mayweather, he wasn’t a true competitor.

Looking at the strike percentages, Logan Paul’s attacks didn’t land at all. Even when he did land, they didn’t do anything of substance. In fact, Floyd Mayweather noted Logan Paul’s lack of power in the post-fight interview.

Any rounds that he “won” were rounds where Floyd Mayweather literally didn’t throw any strikes (see rounds 1 and 2). When somebody isn’t punching you, landing five punches out of 60 will still get you a “winner” title, no matter how bad your accuracy is.

This isn’t a jab (pun intended) at Logan Paul. He showed up, showed out, and surpassed all expectations.

The fight was for entertainment.

As seen in the post-fight interviews, the two athletes have a ton of respect for each other, and it’s really admirable. Logan Paul even displayed a heartwarming amount of gratitude towards Floyd Mayweather, exclaiming how much of an honor it was to fight with him.

Floyd Mayweather mirrored the praise, also saying that Logan Paul was better than expected, though he may have trouble competing against other people. Floyd Mayweather also stressed that the fight was just for fun and entertainment, reinforcing point #1 about how he didn’t take it TOO seriously.

They made a LOT of money.

Floyd Mayweather reportedly might make $100M from this fight (depending on PPV sales). Yeah, 1/10 of a billion dollars. That’s a lot of money. Logan Paul may make around $20M.

The fight itself was rather bland at times, but the sportsmanship, story, and implications made it worthy of recognition.
