Twitter’s verification process has been on hold for a very long time. Because of what can infer to be a massive backlog in requests coupled with an ineffective system, users haven’t been able to apply for a blue checkmark.

Right now, Twitter’s verification blog reads:

“Please note that our verified account program is currently on hold. We are not accepting any new requests at this time, however we plan to make it possible to apply for a verified badge starting in 2021.”

That restart date may be coming sooner than we previously thought. Numerous reports from researcher Jane Manchum Wong have claimed that the program may be released as soon as sometime this week.

Twitter is allegedly done with the revamping process needed to optimize their system, meaning that the release date is no longer contingent on any further innovation from their end.

Screenshots have shown the process that users will go through to apply for a badge, and it isn’t easy. Requiring strong online notoriety, Twitter has made it clear that this badge won’t go to just anybody.

If you’re looking to apply as somebody who has off-Twitter clout, you’ll need to provide various article features about you or your brand. They must be from within the last six months and have to be from prominent news outlets. Similarly, Wikipedia articles are cited for having a significant impact on obtaining Twitter verification.

If you want to apply because you have many Twitter followers, the process becomes even more difficult. You’ll have to have a follower count that’s in the top 0.1% of those in your geographic region, which may be a tough competition.

The main point of a verification badge (per Twitter) is as follows:

“The blue verified badge on Twitter lets people know that an account of public interest is authentic. To receive the blue badge, your account must be authentic, notable, and active.”

The majority of people pursuing verification are expected to be internet influencers, celebrities, and companies/brands.

When it is released, Twitter’s feature will be easily accessible and available within the app. It’ll likely be on their blog as well. Good luck!
