Mark Cuban is an American billionaire, entrepreneur, and investor in several business ventures. Studies show that only 39% of active CEOs worldwide are present on social media, and the remaining 61% don’t find it useful. Cuban is among the 39%, but he takes it a bit further.

Cuban’s use of social media to grow his empires.

Being someone who appears in televised media on a routine base, Cuban’s presence on social platforms was inevitable. He has successfully used his Instagram personal account to build a following that has become loyal to his brands like Shark Tank – an American reality TV Series.

In addition, Cuban uses social media to promote PlayLine – a fantasy sports platform that focuses mainly on basketball. He recently invested a large sum of money into Instagram basketball memes account @NBAMemes, promoting Playline and his brands. @NBAmemes has over 3.8 million loyal followers.

In recent years, using memes on social media has been one-way for brands to build traffic and on their social media platforms. As a businessman, Cuban understood the potential, hence his investment in @NBAmemes. The account gets a lot of engagement due to the funny sports memes posted daily.

However, @NBAMemes isn’t the only account that Cuban and PlayLine partnered upon; his other pages include @Ball, @SlamDunk, and @NFLMemes. Being the Dallas Mavericks owner (a team that frequently engages on platforms like TikTok), Cuban understands that he can take advantage of this free sports marketing through his network of accounts.

Cuban’s social media strategy.

Despite using social media to grow his business, Cuban advises people not to pour out all their lives on social media because what they post may someday haunt them. In an interview, Cuban states that today there are companies collecting data on whatever people publish on their social media, and they use this data to create their people’s profiles.

Cuban also notes that such information can be used against you in the future when you try to pursue specific opportunities like seeking a political office, finding a job, and a few other instances.

Final thoughts

Mark Cuban is a very humorous and charismatic leader who has used social media to grow his brand. His use of social media strategically expands his business through direct ads that pursue traffic to his platforms. The plan is unorthodox, but it takes advantage of a growing trend, helping the mogul capitalize on the younger demographic.
