After publicly announcing the Lucid Air Sedan in September 2020, Lucid Motors has finally unveiled the car, and it is now available for reservation. The Lucid Air Sedan is a purely luxury car with some of the best technology on the market right now. Having this car ready is a massive milestone for this company that got into full-scale EV manufacturing in 2016.

Lucid Motors (initially called Atieva) was founded in 2007 by Sheaupyng Lin, Bernard Tse, and Sam Weng. The company started as a manufacturer of EV batteries and powertrains for other vehicle manufacturers but later went into mainstream EV manufacturing in 2016. Since then, Lucid Motors has been secretly working on an electric vehicle that the world finally got to see in 2020.

As a way of increasing their financial sustainability, Lucid Motors will go public later this year at a date that is yet to be announced. After going public, Churchill Capital IV (CCIV) shareholders will collectively own 16.1% of post-merger Lucid. The SPAC investors will hold an additional 10.4%, and existing Lucid shareholders will own the remaining 73.5%.

  • 1,080 horsepower
  • 0 – 60 mph in just 2.2 seconds (one of the fastest in the market)
  • 9.9 seconds to get a quarter-mile
  • A luxury 34-inch cockpit display that is just above the car dashboard
  • 21-speaker surreal sound system

The car is now available for reservation and will start shipping at a date that is yet to be officially announced by the company. The starting price for this car will be $69,900 after credit tax. The high-end model will cost about $169,000 for those who want to max out all the features.

With the Lucid Air Sedan now entirely in the EV market after releasing their first car, competition in the EV industry will get even stiffer, which is advantageous to the end consumer because companies will start being more innovative.
