Erik Cain may very well one of the most underrated artists you’ve never heard of. The Alabama rapper’s discography is filled with gems. From tracks like Up, Up, & Away to Know My Name, it’s hard to tell if Cane’s biggest strength is his flow or his lyrical delivery.

“Imma is the first to make it out, from a city where if they see a little greatness, they’re gonna take it out,” says Cain on his track titled Impact. Cain, from Huntsville AL, is trying to do exactly that. With multiple albums under his belt, Cain looks to keep making noise in an industry that seems to pay the least attention to meaningful lyrical content.

While much of Cains’s early content to date is blatantly drowned in influences from his contemporaries (many of his popular tracks sound like something taken directly off Chance the Rapper’s Acid Rap or 10 Day),  Cain begins to diversify himself in his content. Whether talking about his relationship with his daughter or what it means to be overlooked in the music industry, Cain has a story to tell that’s certainly worth listening to.

On a recent podcast, Cain talked about how he has recently interned at one of the recording studios in Atlanta where artists such as NBA Youngboy and Tee Grizzley record. An experience like that may be exactly what Cain needs to breakthrough. Cain has also recently teased a sequel to an album he released earlier this year titled Heart and Soul, Vol. 1

While the run time on this tape may be its biggest flaw, the album clocks in at just under an hour and 20 minutes and has some tracks you might consider “misses”, what the album does do perfectly is showcase Cain’s versatility. Just compare songs like Don’t Let Go to Scattered to see for yourself how Cain can switch his flow, delivery, and flow in the blink of an eye.

Erik Cain is one to keep an eye on, and his story may be overtaking the billboard charts one day soon.
